Are you interested in becoming more involved with UUSE's participation in the Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance? If so, GHIAA has just announced its Spring 2025 Leadership Training. They invite all interested UUSE members and friends to join them for a workshop on the fundamentals of faith-based organizing, the tools of relational culture, techniques for building and wielding power, and the process for identifying issues and developing campaigns. There are two options for training this spring (each series will cover the same content): • Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 P.M., via Zoom, May 7, 14, 21, 28 • Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., in person (location being confirmed in Hartford), June 3, 10, 17, 24 Registration is online. Women’s Circle Women’s Circle with Nora Alpers-Leon Third Tuesdays at 7:00 Zoom Only December-March Contact alpers6@gmail.com for zoom link Nora describes this women’s circle as a “judgment-free comfort zone.” She invites participants to “sit, connect and share.” Bring a journal and a pen and a cushion or mat to sit on if you prefer that to a chair. Nora Mijares Alpers-Leon is an indigenous (Colombian) mother, developmental psycholinguist and educator, who has a background in dance, yoga, and mindfulness. She completed 2 bachelor and 2 master degrees and a graduate certificate between UW-Madison and UConn. She did her Yoga Teacher Training in the Berkshires, and has led mindfulness workshops and talking circles in the United States and Colombia with both adults and children. We've been here before, and through struggle, we've arisen better than we were. We can still celebrate the Idea of America, and we can move towards it again. The late Stephen Levine was a spiritual teacher and writer. Many of us have read and re-read “A Gradual Awakening,” “Who Dies?,” “Healing into Life and Death,” and others. His article “Leaning Toward the Light,” picks up familiar spiritual themes. To paraphrase Levine: “I find myself using the term “God” and am comfortable with that term because I don’t have the foggiest idea what it means.” What else are we to call that spiritual stirring that tugs at our hearts when we look into the eyes of a baby or study any living thing up close? Is that thing we call “God” a constant in our lives or is it something we long for and seek, even as we question its existence? UUs are often called a community of seekers but are we ever finders?
