< To Upcoming Services Watch the eBlast for the next scheduled SUNDIALS: Out from the Shadows SUNDIALS: Out from the Shadows (A Cliff Pelletier Memorial Lecture) October 6, 2025 at 7:00 P.M. in the UUSE Meeting Room Long-time member Fred Sawyer will provide an overview of the 3,500-year-long history of the sundial as a scientific device--perhaps humanity's first. Dozens of varieties and instruments and how they evolved will be discussed and illustrated with opportunities for the audience to ask questions. Fred is President and editor of the North American Sundial Society and the Patron of the British Sundial Society. He has published nine books on Sciatherics -- the study of sundials. < To Upcoming Services Mar 21, 2026 Auction Update! Auction Update! We hope everyone had a great time at the auction! We earned $11,500+ for UUSE. Raffle Baskets The drawing for the raffle baskets will be this Sunday, Feb. 8 after the second service. You don't have to be present to win, and you can still buy tickets to enter on Sunday! Room for More There are a couple items that have room for more participants. You can sign up for them in the lobby on Sunday or you can email auction@uuse.org . Keep On Truckin' What do you need moved? Stan McMillen will move brush, debris, household items (no pianos) from your place to the dump or wherever. You get him for two hours. If your town charges for access to the dump, etc., you will be responsible for those fees. $150. Genealogic Research Want to find out who you are related to? Want to find where your ancestors came from? Larry Lunden will search your family tree on Familysearch.org to see what he can find. Maybe a lot, maybe not so much. Hopefully he can find their names and dates, and records of vital events of their lives. He will send results as he searches. $50. Pair of Tour Passes for the Mark Twain House Get a guided tour of the famous Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford. Two tickets: No expiration date. Not valid on holidays or for specialty tours. $20 per pair. Biscotti Making Join Jennifer Klee at her friend Kathleen's home in Granby to learn the technique and tips for making delicious biscotti. We'll make 2-3 flavors and learn how to dip them. As well as trying a few samples with coffee or tea. Led by Heart Centered Kirtan, these events offer a warm, inclusive space to connect through music, mantra, and shared presence. What is Kirtan? Kirtan is a form of participatory music that blends melody, rhythm, and meditation. Rooted in the devotional singing traditions of India, kirtan invites people of all backgrounds to join in simple, call-and-response chanting. You don’t need to be a singer or have any experience—just an open heart and a willingness to listen and participate. The focus is on community, not performance. Through music and repetition, we create a shared space for reflection, connection, and joy. Led by Heart Centered Kirtan Our gatherings are led by Libby Volckening (vocals/keys), Ezra Landis (guitar), Reed Sutherland (bass), and Chris Ball (drums). Together, they bring a contemporary sound to this ancient practice—grounded in authenticity, openness, and community spirit. Continuing our long-term project to manage invasive bittersweet, we're going to cut down vines in their prime, before the berries ripen. Join the Building & Grounds Committee for our Summer Invasives Clearing on Saturday, July 12th from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 a.m. We recommend protecting your skin with long sleeves and pants, closed shoes and work gloves. Bring loppers and pruning shears. We'll supply cold beverages. Children and youth with responsible adults are welcome. Our second annual hybrid hymn sing service will feature favorite hymns, with some sharing about why they are meaningful Please let Martha Larson know hymns you want to sing NOW.
