Congregational Vote on Article II

Sunday, March 17, 2024

A vote on the proposed Article II will be held on March 17, at 1 PM at a congregational meeting in the Sanctuary and on Zoom. The votes will be by silent ballot. Childcare will be offered.

On January 16, 2024, the Policy Board affirmed the following decisions to be voted upon at the congregational meeting:

1. The congregation will vote on the new proposed Article II. A Yes vote will mean a vote for the new proposed Article II and a No vote will mean a vote against the new proposed Article II.

2. The congregation will charge or direct the delegates on how to vote on Article II. The charge will be only for Article II and only for this one- time vote at GA 2024.

3. The congregation will vote on whether to charge the delegates on Article II proportionally or based on a majority of the vote on the proposed Article II.

Example: Based on the majority approach, if 2/3 of the congregation votes “NO” on Article II, and 1/3 votes “YES” on Article II, then all 6 of the delegates would vote “NO” on Article II because the “NO” vote was the majority vote.

Based on the proportionality approach, if 2/3 of the congregation votes “NO” on Article II and 1/3 votes “YES” on Article II, then 4 of the delegates would vote “NO” on Article II and 2 delegates would vote “YES” on Article II. If the vote is uneven, then rounding will occur.

UUSE is credentialed to send 6 delegates to GA in June. GA is on-line only this year. If more than 6 members volunteer, the policy board will determine the selection criteria to choose the 6 delegates.
