UUS:E SUNDAY SERVICES SCHEDULE
Late August thru Early October 2010
153 Vernon Street West, Manchester CT
SERVICES AT 9:00 AND 11:00 AM unless otherwise noted
August 22: “UU Originals: Celebrating Our Creativity.” This service provides an opportunity for members and friends to share their original creations. You will see works of art, crafts, and photography displayed and hear poetry, music, and words of inspiration from several of our members. Coordinator: Nancy Madar.
August 29: “Let's Make the Connections.” Why do people come to church? Often it is to find a community of people with shared values. Despite our cell phones and Facebook pages, real communities, where people know and care about each other, are scarce these days. Our church takes pride in being a shared ministry, where each member participates in ministering to others. As chair of the Pastoral Friends Committee, Sharon Gresk has some powerful ideas about the spiritual discipline of making caring connections. Speaker: Sharon Gresk. Coordinator: Carol Hewey.
September 5: "Labor Day". In this service Bernie Dutton, Scott Woodruff, and Dori Harrington will share some of their experiences working in labor. How does a Unitarian Universalist fit into the culture of the trucking world and how does a truck driver fit into the UUS: E culture; going on strike and it's impact on the worker and other experiences will be shared. Presenters: Bernie Dutton, Scott Woodruff and Dori Harrington. Coordinator: Lynn Dove
September 12: “Homecoming and Water Communion.” Family Worship. Anyone who wishes may bring water to participate in this annual homecoming ritual. Water may be from some place you’ve visted during the summer; or it may be from your home. Let it represent something you’ve done, learned or experienced during the summer months. Coordinators: Vicki Merriam, Pawel Jura, Rev. Josh Pawelek.
September 19: “Liberal Religious Vision.” As part of our “Re-Dedication Weekend,” Rev. Pawelek will offer his reflections on the gifts liberal religion offers to the world in the 21st century. Coordinator: The Rev. Josh Pawelek.
3 P.M. Service of “Re-Dedication.”
UUS:E’s service of Re-Dedication marks the completion of our building expansion project. Gini Courter, Moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association, will be our preacher. Family worship. All are welcome—please join us!
FRIDAY, September 24, 2010, 6:30 P.M.: “Family Worship.” Tonight we kick off an experiment in alternative worship at UUS:E. Come for fellowship and dessert at 6:30 followed by a family-oriented service from 7:00 to 7:45. All are welcome. Coordinators: Vicki Merriam and Rev. Josh Pawelek.
September 26: "Liberal Religious Vision - Then and Now" Some of us have been religiously liberal for all of our lives. We will share how our vision has changed - from when we were either Unitarian or Universalist, through the formation of the Unitarian Universalist Association, to the present. Coordinator: Martha Larson
October 3: “Salvation Re-Imagined.” Salvation is our theme for the month of October. Salvation—a tricky word for Unitarian Universalists. Salvation was the theological centerpiece for our Universalist forbears, yet today it means very little to us. Time for re-imagining! Coordinator: Rev. Josh Pawelek.
